The story of the covers....

I thought I'd share the story of how these covers came to be. Nothing too crazy, but it's kinda cool all the same. First thing is that I didn't submit either of these projects for publication.
Both of them were sent away for display at the Winter CHA show for Cosmo Cricket.

One day I got a surprise email from the editor of the CARDS magazine, asking me if the card was available as she'd seen it here on my blog and loved it. I seriously didn't think those kind of things really happened! Seemed like some kind of Urban Legend to get a request for something you didn't submit.
I was at first really sad since I didn't have the card, but then I offered to re-create it if that would be ok with her, and she said it was as she wanted it for the cover. That was when I really just about died! My first cover!!!

THEN... a bit later I got another email from a different editor, this time Scrapbook Trends mag, and she too was asking for a page I had not submitted, but one seen on my blog. Similar story, mini freak out about having to recreate it, and then again to hear it would be on a Cover.. well.. yeah. I just about died. :) I never really expected my boys to see print like that since I only submit my cards. I sometimes feel my pages aren't as good. :p

And, that is in a nutshell how they came to be. I really hope this doesn't come across as bragging... which is the last thing I want. I honestly just feel so incredibly lucky, and still totally amazed. I think it's just an encouraging story to know that editors ARE out blog hopping and looking for projects.

Btw, I'll have them posted on my sidebar for awhile too, more for family and friends who have wanted to see them without having to hunt.
And no.. I haven't seen them in person, since no where local sells them. Ah well.. just have to wait for my complimentary copies :)

And lastly because I need something scrappy to post, here is a card from today's blog post at Cosmo Cricket.

This card was made with the line Togetherness, and Cosmo Cricket chip alphas, and tiny stickers too.

Have a great day!!!!

so cool! Congrats! i subscribe to SBTrends so noticed your work right away, what a sweet page of your boys (since i'm expecting my first boy i have boy scrapbook page radar these days!)

You are in Canada too right? Have you tried Chapters for copies of the mags? Mine in Toronto carries both but they sell out pretty quickly...(they also charge $10 too instead of $19 which is nice!)

Have great day

Congrats! What a great story. I instantly fell in love with your amazing layout when I first saw it months ago (on Cosmo Cricket's blog?). Definitely one of my all time favorites. So I wasn't surprised when it showed up on a cover :-)

Another cover! I had to come here and congratulate you. :) I have a copy of the June ST on my desk I would love to send to you. I will be passing it along to someone and since it's your boys on the front, I would say that puts you first in line. Just let me know.

I also had the good fortune of a second cover, this time Scrapbooking & Beyond, fall. I worry about sounding braggy as well so I came here to see how you handled it. :) Maybe I'll blog about me story, too.

Hi Laura! :) I am a dedicated browser of your sweet blog, and I just had to pop in and squeal with you on this post. I absolutely ADORE your cover card - it definitely stood out to me when I saw it. HUGE congrats on the double whammy! :) I had the same experience w/my first cover card and almost ran off the road reading the email on my Bberry, lol! (don't email and drive!) Anyway, it's fun to "meet" someone else w/a similar (times TWO) experience. Congrats again! :)
